Types of Firewood Available For Purchase?

Firewood is classified into two broad categories; hardwood or softwood. Hardwoods are denser than softwoods, enabling them to produce more heat and have a longer burn time, making them a preferred wood for wood burners and fireplaces. Additionally, hardwoods are less resinous than softwoods, producing less smoke and buildup in your chimney.

The high resin content in softwoods creates a charming and colorful flame that is ideal for outdoor fires. While softwoods burn quickly, the fire produced is enjoyable to look at and smells excellent.

At Premier Tree and Landscaping, we have both hardwoods and softwood firewood options available to our customers year-round:

What is Seasoned Firewood?

When a tree is cut down, the wood can contain as much as 80% water. If you have ever tried to start a fire with green wood, you know how critical it is to have dry wood for your fire. Wood can be dried naturally, using a traditional method known as seasoning.

When dried through a seasoning method, the wood is stored outside for a year or more. The seasoning results can vary significantly due to weather, climate, and where or how the wood is stored. Often, wood that is being seasoned is stored on the ground and open to the elements.

What is a Cord of Wood?

Firewood is often sold in a variety of quantities. In addition to finding firewood for sale in small bundles or piles, it's common to see face cords, ricks, and cords of wood advertised for sale. The most common way to measure firewood is by the cord, an amount of stacked wood that adds up to 128 cubic feet, or a stack four feet tall, four feet deep, and eight feet long,
