One to two weeks after spring thaw through falls hard freeze. Tree care professionals prefer that at least some leaves/buds are on the tree; it makes it much easier to discern what is dead from alive. Lends to a more precise structure prune of the tree. Unlikely to miss anything dead or take anything still healthy.

Spring - One to two weeks after spring thaw and prior to the tree sap starts flowing; typically, a 4-6-week window in the spring. In the Boise Valley that window varies, usually mid end march when tree sap starts to flow through late April. Fall - fruit pruning should be done prior to a hard freeze. In the Boise Valley that window varies, usually mid end September when tree sap starts to slow through November, however before a long hard freeze, otherwise your better off waiting till spring.

A proper Tree structure prune includes all or some of the following depending on the needs of the tree and surrounding structures such as fencing, adjacent homes, outdoor living spaces, etc. trimming, thinning, skirting, remove deadwood; provide clearance to any fence, sidewalk and neighbor house clearances. The anticipated time between this service would depend greatly on the amount of water and food the tree has annually. Cycle can run anywhere from 2-5 years.

Our experience is that by the time you have noticed an issue and call us, most of the time, the issue has gone for years unnoticed until it is time to remove the tree for safety concerns of life or property. Another issue is storm damage that is so great to the structure of the tree that it must be removed for life and/or property safety issue(s). The balance of what we encounter, through proper care above ground and proper feeding care below ground, can survive and grow healthy for years to come, although this outcome is not typical if your tree(s) have been neglected for more than 5 years.

Most times it the usual seasonal fungi and pests, best to connect with a local nursery for the appropriate treatments in your specific area. Treatments can differ in just a few miles of your geographical location here in the Treasure Valley. Should the concern be great enough that you feel the tree is dying or in extreme distress or decay, we are happy to provide free tree assessments. (beetles have been known to kill a pine tree in as little as a few months).

We will only take up to 1/3 of a tree at any single trimming, any more could potentially put the tree into shock and kill it. Should additional pruning be required, wait until the next seasonal opportunity. (trim in spring, fall next possibility; summer-following spring; fall-late spring is possible)

We have found that typically transplants are not successful despite best measures. For this reason, we will decline transplanting any tree or shrub. Consider a new planting in that new location.

We do not. We design & build to your specifications. Consider having it maintained professionally so you can take full advantage of your time in your new outdoor living space with family and friends.

We do not install or maintain irrigation systems
